So there I was, placing wagers at my online sportsbook. Fun, and I won just a little more often than I lost, so eventually I came out well ahead (I don’t bet a lot, as a rule, but it adds up after a while). Okay, I thought, why not. I’ll burn through a few bucks playing pennies at a throw.
So I brought up one of the online slots that looked cool and started playing. Not bad, I thought, admiring the graphics and animations. My first couple of spins didn’t really work out too well, so I was down a whole 75 cents. Boo hoo.
That’s when IT happened: the first few symbols lined up, then I got a wild symbol, and then the final reel sort of went haywire. It started spinning faster and faster and didn’t stop. I was all like “oh noes, I broked it”, but suddenly it came to a halt and everything started flashing and making noises.
Turns out I had hit a nice little jackpot. I’m not going to brag, it wasn’t anything major (like, enough for a nice meal at a restaurant but not much more) but it was way more than I expected. In fact, it was way more than the amount that I was trying to burn through by playing slots in the first place!
I was pretty excited (who can blame me, right?) but then I suddenly realized how much I would have won if I hadn’t been playing only one coin at a time…like, five times as much. As in, enough for a new Xbox360 instead of just enough for a good meal.
It was then that I learned my first important rule about online slots: always play the max. If the max is too high, move to a machine with a lower scale. Because when that big one hits, you’re going to kick yourself…like I did…
